Drainage visit brief builder
Choose the purpose of a visit and build a short list of useful observations. This does not identify a blockage or decide who owns a pipe.
Observe from a safe place. Do not lift heavy covers, enter chambers or touch sewage. For an unsafe overflow use the official reporting routes in our emergency drainage guide; an online enquiry is not an emergency response.

How to use the result
Choose the closest purpose. The result lists information to gather and questions to agree with a business; it does not infer the cause, urgency, remedy or suitability of the work.
Use the result as discussion notes only. It is not a professional survey, specification, permission, safety assessment or assurance that work can proceed.

A recurring blockage
- Note which outlets are affected and which still empty normally.
- Record when the problem returns after clearance.
- Find any earlier clearance notes, camera footage or repair report.
- Ask whether investigation and clearance are separate tasks.
A house-purchase survey
- List the questions the buyer or surveyor needs answered.
- Ask the owner about available drain plans and safe inspection access.
- Agree whether the deliverable includes footage, a plan and a written condition report.
- Ask how inaccessible runs and survey limitations will be recorded.
Planned drainage work
- Describe the proposed bathroom, extension or changed drainage route.
- Gather existing drawings without assuming they show every pipe.
- Ask who will establish ownership, connection permissions and inspection requirements.
- Agree what testing and reinstatement records will be supplied.
